Crime


Ned accepts instructions to both prosecute and defend in the Crown Court, the Youth Court, and the Magistrates’ Court. He is firm but fair.

Having volunteered at Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre for young offenders, Ned is able to build a rapport quickly with people from many different backgrounds.

His calm and pragmatic approach helps to reassure both witnesses and clients alike. A natural storyteller, his advocacy is engaging for a jury.

Notable cases:

R v D – Ned prosecuted a robbery trial involving the threat of a knife which ended with conviction.

R v D – Ned persuaded a jury to acquit his client of possession of cannabis with intent to supply on the basis that the 184g of cannabis, the scales, and the small plastic bags belonging to his client were for personal use only.

BFBC v B – Ned successfully prosecuted a trial for a local authority, securing convictions in respect of all charges, two being fraud by false representation.

R v L – Ned secured an acquittal for a serving prisoner alleged to have assaulted a prison officer, despite previous convictions for the same.

R v G – Ned secured an acquittal for a youth charged with dangerous driving amongst other driving offences.

R v H – Ned successfully resisted the Crown’s application to adjourn, subsequently making a successful submission of no case to answer resulting in his client’s acquittal in respect of criminal damage.

R v L – Ned persuaded the court to impose a conditional discharge in respect of three charges of assaulting a police officer.

R v W – Ned’s client received a suspended sentence order in respect of eight charges of failing to comply with their notification requirements committed in breach of a suspended sentence order, despite aggravating previous convictions.

Regulatory and Local Government


Ned accepts instructions in a variety of different local authority prosecutions. Most recently, he has been Junior Counsel on a fraudulent trading trial lasting over seven weeks.

He provides legal training for local authorities on a variety of topics, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, and general advocacy. He is able to advise on matters relating to evidence and procedure.

Ned has particular expertise in advising and appearing on behalf of the police in a variety of different applications, such as sexual risk orders, sexual harm prevention orders, and stalking protection orders.

Property and Social Housing


Ned accepts instructions in a range of property and social housing matters including access injunctions and possession claims.
